President Maithripala Sirisena has told the UNP back-benchers that he will clean the 'SLFP stables' after the party's anniversary event on September 02.
During a special meeting held between the UNP back-bench MPs and President Sirisena, the MPs had repeatedly pointed out the instances where the SLFP MPs representing the government had acted in an irresponsible manner.
They had urged the President to take action against the SLFP Minsters violating the collecting responsibility of the government - as the UNP did against Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe.
The UNP MPs had stressed the need to maintain and preserve the unity among key members of the government.
The President, in response, had admitted that some SLFP members representing the government had spoken to media in an irresponsible manner, damaging the good relations between the two main parties of the ruling coalition.
He had said MPs from both parties were responsible for the current situation.
However, the President had assured that he would start cleaning his camp, after the party's anniversary event, this weekend.
