Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila has filed a Special Determination petition before the Supreme Court against the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
The parliamentarian is seeking two-thirds majority in Parliament and the people’s approval through a referendum before the Bill is passed as law.
The 20th Amendment to the Constitution was put forth by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as National Policies and Economic Affairs Minister.
It seeks, among other things, to hold provincial council elections on the same day.
