The South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) has distanced itself from a group known as the ‘SAITM Parents Association’, saying the group was not the ‘official’ association of parents for SAITM.

In a statement SAITM said informed the general public that the ‘self-acclaimed SAITM Parents Association headed by Gamunu Wijeratne has no relation nor is it the official association of parents for SAITM.’

‘It is an association where Mr. Wijeratne voices his personal opinion rather than the view of a majority of over 1,500 parents,’ SAITM said further, in its official statement.

‘SAITM and its Management will not be held responsible for the statements given through this association as it does not represent even a fraction of the number of parents of students attending the Medical Faculty,’ it added.
