President Maithripala Sirisena instructed Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayaka and heads of the law enforcement authorities to continuously carry out the ongoing mission against drug lords and drug dealers across the country.
The President said he would extend his full support to the Police in this regard.
"Without stopping at arresting drug users, the Police should nab drug dealers and drug dealers," the President added.
The Law and Order Ministry recently formed a high-powered body, the ‘Organised Crimes and Narcotic Range’ to launch comprehensive operations against the drug menace and the underworld.
Addressing a meeting with all stakeholders involved in the mission at the Presidential Secretariat on Thursday, the President instructed them to draw the support of foreign countries, if necessary, to prevent the activities of drugs smugglers.
He said many foreign leaders had assured support to Sri Lanka in the country's efforts to prevent drug smuggling.
The President specifically instructed the authorities to adopt a comprehensive plan to nab drug dealers and sellers aiming for schoolchildren.
He said the government would provide all required facilities to the programme while strengthening relevant state institutions.
