The Uva Provincial Council (UPC) this morning voted against the 20th Amendment to the Constitution to hold all provincial council elections on the same day.
Twelve voted against the proposed amendment, while five voted to hold the provincial council elections on the same day across the island.
The North Central Provincial Council (NCPC) on August 22 voted for the 20th Amendment to the Constitution with 15 voting for and 13 voting against.
The 20th Amendment to the Constitution proposes a new electoral system that seeks, among other things, to holds elections to all nine provincial councils on a single day.
