The government, this week, approved a proposal by Housing and Construction Minister Sajith Premadasa to sign a MoU with India to obtain financial aid amounting to Rs. 300 million to construct 600 houses for low-income families in 25 districts.
A housing requirement survey conducted in 2016 had revealed that 216,197 families in Sri Lanka have no house, or land on which to build a house and the government had contracted aid from India to assist in the project of providing houses for needy Sri Lankans.
