The proposal by Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva to revise and prepare a new policy for bus fares to suit present day needs, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Accordingly, a committee of experts will be appointed to prepare a new policy after discussion with trade unions.

The present policy was prepared in 2002  and has not been revised since.
