The Kayts Magistrate this morning re-remanded until September 4 former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe who was arrested for involvement in the Vithiya Sivaloganathan rape and murder case.

Former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe is accused of aiding Mahalingam Sivakumar, the prime suspect in the rape and murder of Vithiya Sivaloganathan, to escape Police custody.

18-year-old Vithiya Sivaloganathan was waylaid, raped and murdered on her way back from school in May 2015.

Twelve suspects including Mahalingam Sivakumar, or ‘Swiss Kumar’ were arrested in connection to the murder.
