The North Central Provincial Council (NCPC) approved the 20th amendment to the Constitution to hold all provincial council elections on the same day.
The decision was made at a vote at which fifteen councillors voted for and thirteen voted against adopting the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
Holding provincial council polls on the same day will greatly minimise the financial cost of holding staggered provincial council polls.
The proposal to amend the Constitution to hold provincial council polls on the same day was brought by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The 20th Amendment to the Constitution is a responsibility to be fulfilled in this era, President Maithripala Sirisena had said.
