President Maithripala Sirisena is to meet with parliamentarians of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) at the parliamentary complex this evening but SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake denied there was any ‘special reason’ for the parliamentarians to congregate.
Speaking to reporters yesterday he said the SLFP parliamentarians were meeting as a matter of routine: “We haven’t met in a while to discuss topics of interest, so we decided to meet,” the SLFP General Secretary said.
The SLFP parliamentarians meeting comes close on the heels of a special United National Party (UNP) meeting yesterday (21) at which the matter relating to the no-confidence motion brought against Justice and Buddhasasana Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe was discussed.
Reports indicate that a section of the SLFP parliamentarians are keen to have Justice and Buddhasasana Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe roped into the SLFP if he is to step down as Minister for Justice and Buddhasasana.
