Former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardena said he understood the frustration of Sri Lankan cricket fans, but taking it out on players would not help any party.
Jayawardena tweeted, "Understand the frustration of the fans but taking it out on the players who are under pressure doesn't help. We have to get behind the team."
He was responding to a question raised by a cricket fan on Sunday night's protest in Dambulla.
A group of cricket lovers who gathered near the international cricket stadium in Dambulla hooted at the luxury bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team after the humiliating defeat against India.
While protesting the below par performance of the cricket team , they also demanded the cricket authorities, headed by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thilanga Sumathipala, to step down.
This was the first time the Sri Lankan cricket fans came out strongly against the performance of the national cricket team in Public.
