Former World Cup cricket captain and current Minister of Petroleum Resources Arjuna Ranatunga has said that it is not difficult to change the current dismal state of national cricket, proffering a ‘U-turn’ approach to change its fortunes.
Speaking to reporters yesterday the Minister said that a few tough decisions had to be made and said if the Sports Minister had a ‘backbone’ he would make these tough decisions, make a ‘U-turn’ and turn back the handle on the state of Sri Lanka’s beloved sport.
Minister Ranatunga further said he had been silent for too long and would no longer be silent: ‘If people get onto the streets about the status of Sri Lanka Cricket, I will also speak on behalf of them,” the Minister said.
He said arbitrary decisions by the nations cricket governing body – Sri Lanka Cricket – had led to the calamitous state it was in: “They change the team too often, they change the coaches too often,” the Minister lamented.
