Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe assured that the money belonging to the Central Cultural Fund would be used to preserve ancient Buddhist temples, across the country. 

"Most of these temples do not have an avenue of income. As a result, they face serious difficulties. It is our duty to channel funds for the preservation of temples. I highly appreciate Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam's efforts in this regard," the Prime Minister said, addressing a Buddhist function at Temple Trees, yesterday. 

The Prime Minister said the government had identified 150 Buddhist temples that require immediate funds for preservation and renovation.

The Prime Minister said the government would give a prominent place to Buddhism, while protecting other religions. 

"When all religions get together, it drives away extremism. Even the Lord Buddha Even the Emperor Asoka urged Buddhists to respect all religions. I am pleases that Ministers D.N. Swaminathan and John Amaratunga are also present at this event," Wickremesinghe added.
