Video footage of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara assaulting a lift operator has surfaced online, calling to question the behavior of the IGP.

The footage shows the IGP grabbing the lift operator by the collar and holding him against the door as he questions him.

The incident is said to have happened on April 11, 2017, at the Police Headquarters in Colombo Fort.

Many on social media have condemned the attack saying there was no indication of the man’s wrongdoing and that the IGP’s conduct was ‘excessive’.
