Muhunthan Canagey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of the Information and Communication Technology (ICTA) Agency of Sri Lanka has resigned from his position, saying the President asked him to leave.

In a letter of resignation made pubic by Canagey, he said: “I have been asked to resign by His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena, which was communicated to me by the by the Hon. Minister Harin Fernando”.

“As you all know, I am a person who has built my career by pure hard work and maintained the highest level of professionalism and integrity”, he continued. “ I will never be part of aiding and abetting any fraud, or corruption or delay in any implementation of digitalization in Sri Lanka.”

“I have been raised from a child to speak my mind boldly, fearlessly and honestly, which are the basic principles I live by and the right that should prevail to me and any other human being,” he said in the letter.

“I am not willing to let go of that just because I need to protect by job at ICTA. Under these circumstances it is regrettable that I am tendering my resignation and start commencing my handing over of duties.”

The former CEO and Managing Director also thanked the people who had supported him during his stint at ICTA, which list included Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Telecommunication Minister Harin Fernando.
