SLFP Minister Dilan Perera yesterday slammed at his party colleague S.B. Dissanayake for attempting to restructure the Samurdhi welfare scheme.
"If someone is trying to curtail welfare measures, the President, without doubt, should take stern action against them," Perera said, addressing a public event in Badulla district, hitting out at his senior party colleague Dissanayake.
"It doesn't matter whether that person is a blue person or a green person; or a person a who jumped back and fourth from time to time," the Minister said, adding that the President should adopt policy on the Social Welfare Minister.
"It should be the same way the President dealt with Ravi Karunanayake," Perera, a State Minister representing the unity government, asserted.
"The President has already made his position clear on the matter. He said there would be no change to the Samurdhi scheme. If there any change, it will ensure that the Samurdhi benefits are increased," Perera added.
Responding to criticism, however, Minister Dissanayake said he took measures to restructure the Samurdhi scheme, through a scientific system.
"Some people were left out according to the new system, and some people were added," the Minister explained.
"But, I don't deny the fact that the technology is 100% correct all the time," Dissanayake said, adding that the government would adopt remedial measures to address the issue.
