Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said former Foreign Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanyake had handed in his resignation to the government yesterday (9) despite the public announcement being made today.
The former Foreign Affairs was under pressure to resign after the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on the Treasury bond issue uncovered a transaction between Karunanayake and prime suspect Arjun Aloysius.
Karunanayake, despite defending his position publicly, tendered his resignation in Parliament this afternoon saying he was making the ultimate sacrifice for the furtherance to the ‘Good Governance’ government.
