Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake is expected to make a special statement in Parliament at 1 pm, informed government sources said.

The Minister, who is now at the centre of a major controversy, is expected to announce his resignation while making the statement. 

He has also met his ministry personal staff this morning and explained the current situation to them. 

He met President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday. 

Highly placed SLFP sources said, if the minister resigns, the party will not push for the no-confidence motion against him.
