Speaker Karu Jayasuriya is expected to indicate when the no-confidence motion brought against Foreign Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanyake will be taken up for debate, today.
At an earlier occasion, when relentlessly questioned by the opposition on when the motion would be taken up for debate, the Speaker cited legal complications and said he would inform the Parliament on Thursday, when the no-confidence motion would be taken up for debate.
The opposition had questioned the delay in the no-confidence motion being added to the agenda and being taken up for debate, despite 33 members of Parliament attached to Joint Opposition (JO) handing over a no-confidence motion against Ravi on August 3.
Informed political sources told Asian Mirror that the resignation of Minister Ravi Karunanayake will hinge on the decision made by the Speaker.
