Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake has met President Maithripala Sirisena for a closed door meeting today, informed government sources said.
The meeting had taken place after the weekly Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
Although Karunanayake did not take part in the Cabinet meeting today, he sought a separate meeting with the President to discuss his issue.
Both parties had agreed to keep the matters discussed as a closely guarded secret, sources close to the President said.
The Foreign Minister has come under pressure from various quarters to resign from his Cabinet position as a result of his close association with Arjuna Aloysius, the controversial businessman at the centre of the bond fiasco.
The President too asked Karunanayake to step down from his position until the end of the ongoing investigations, last Friday.
