Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) Convener Lahiru Weerasekera was granted bail by the Colombo High Court, a short while ago.

Weerasekera was taken into custody on June 23 for leading a protest against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) on June 21.

The protest had culminated with the Ministry of Health being stormed by university students who were insisting on meeting the Health Minister.

Close to 100 were injured in the ensuing clash between law enforcement authorities and university students.
