Foreign Mininter Ravi Karunanayake will make a statement in Parliament and resign from his cabinet position, if the party leaders decide to proceed with the no-confidence motion against him, informed political sources said.
They further added that the Minister would step down from the position only until the end of the ongoing investigations.
The party leaders will meet today in Parliament to decide how to proceed on the no-confidence motion against Karunanayake.
A date for its debate is scheduled to be fixed at today's meeting.
The no-confidence motion has been presented to the Speaker's Office in Parliament with signatures of 33 Joint Opposition MPs.
