President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe have asked Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake to resign from his ministerial portfolio, Asian Mirror reliably learns.
The President and the Prime Minister have made the request yesterday following heavy pressure mounted by Cabinet members representing the United National Party and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
The President and the Prime Minister have informed the Minister that the latter's statement before the Treasury bonds commission brought the government into disrepute.
President Sirisena and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe had extensive discussions before asking the Cabinet Minister to resign from his position
The request, however, has not elicited any response from the Minister who is now at the centre of a major controversy.
