A group of senior Ministers representing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) have officially requested President Maithripala Sirisena to remove Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake from his Cabinet portfolio.

Sports Minister Daysiri Jayasekera,a stalwart of the sLFP, had openly said he would raise both hands in support of the no-confidence motion, presented by the Joint Opposition.
They had also pointed out that Karunanayake's statement before the commission had turned the entire government into a 'laughing stock'.
It is learnt that the President had agreed with the views expressed by his ministerial group.
Sources close to the President said he would discuss the matter with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe , within the next few days.
They also added that the President had the option of removing Karunanayake from his position, at least until the end of the ongoing investigations.
However, a final decision on the matter would be made after discussions between the President and the Prime Minister.
