The Chinese funded Norochcholai coal power plant has run into a fresh crisis with one of its generators ceasing to function due to an unidentified technical fault.
CEB sources said the engineers based in Sri Lanka were not able to detect the problem.
A team of technical experts from China are expected to arrive in the country soon to look into the issue at the Norochcholai coal power plant.
They added they were not in a position to give a comment on when the power plant would return to normalcy.
Although the senior management of the CEB has assured that the breakdown of the Norochcholai coal power plant does not make an impact on the national electricity supply, there have been a number of intermittent power cuts across the country, in the recent past.
There have been nearly 30 breakdowns at the power plant, within the first two years after its inception.
