WHO Says 53% Dengue Deaths From Western Province: Latest Statistics Revealed

The latest statistics released by the World Health Organization (WHO) indicate that the Western Province of Sri Lanka is the most affected by the dengue disease.

Approximately 44.5% of cases and 53% of deaths were reported from the Western province, a WHO situation report said, with the most affected area being the Colombo with 23 574 cases.

This is followed by Gampaha with 19, 046 cases, Ratnapura with 6, 583, Kalutara with 6, 525) and Kandy with 6,475 cases.

The highest numbers of dengue cases thus far were reported during June 30, 2017 – July 7, 2017, the report further indicated.

Approximately 30% of dengue patients are children between the ages 5 -19 the National Dengue Control Unit of the Ministry of Health revealed, the report further indicates.

A total of 110, 372 cases and 301 deaths have been reported this year.
