Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has cited several technical issues as the reason for the recent power outages in several parts of the country.
A CEB spokesman said Kalenitissa and some other power plants experienced technical issues and there was no hydro generation due to the ongoing drought.
Meanwhile, a power generator at the Norochcholai coal power plant has also been shut down for a week.
The CEB said it had to conduct intermittent power cuts across the country to balance the national electricity grid.
The spokesman added that these power-cuts would be halted from July 27.
