Port Workers To Stage One Day Token Strike Against Hambantota Deal

Port workers have informed they intend to launch a one-day token strike on Friday July 28, against the proposed Government of Sri Lanka deal with China over the Hambantota Harbor.

The GoSL yesterday approved the deal to lease out the Hambantota Magampura Port to the China Merchants Company for a period of 90 years.

During this period, Sri Lanka will hold 30% ownership and the Chinese company 70% ownership of the Magampura Harbour.

Workers attached to the Ports authority are against the move that allows China a bigger share in the management of the Port.
