The proposal by Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa to obtain consultation services for efficient disaster management was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Sri Lanka has faced several unprecedented disasters this year, such as the Southwest monsoonal rains which wreaked havoc, with over 200 dying and over 700, 000 affected.
Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, who was not in the country at the time, came under attack by the public and the media for being unprepared for the magnitude of the disaster.
Sri Lanka was also faced with the Meethotamulla tragedy, which saw a section of the 300ft garbage dump collapse on residents, killing over 30.
