The Colombo Fort Magistrate has issued an order preventing university students from disrupting the public during their protest today (18).
University students, led by the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) are protesting against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM)
The university students are insisting the private medical faculty in Malabe is shut down, despite solutions being offered by the government.
On April 7, the government announced the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital – attached to SAITM – would be taken over by the Health Ministry.
Several other solutions including providing graduates with further clinical training for a period of six months were also included, but local university students are insisting the campus is closed.
