Cabinet Approves Moves To Reduce Hydrofluorocarbon To Protect Orzone Layer

The Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol were adopted respectively in 1958 and 1987 for the purpose of reducing hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) and its final amendment was made on October 15, 2016 at Kigali, Rwanda to reduce HFC in stages.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal by President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to appoint a committee to take necessary action for ratifying the amendment with immediate effect.
