Power and Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has cautioned the public to use electricity sparingly, despite heavy rains experienced recently.
The Minister was addressing a meeting at Pottuvil, in the country’s East.
The Power and Energy Minister said that the tanks used for hydropower and not increased very much with the rains and therefore the general public should be use electricity carefully in order to mitigate any shortages.
Heavy rains that fell on Sri Lanka’s southwestern areas caused landslides and flooding that killed over two hundred people and displaced over half a million but have failed increase the capacity of tanks providing hydropower.
