Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera has hit out at former Olympic athlete Susanthika Jayasinghe, saying the allegations she has made against the Sports Ministry and him are both false and baseless.
“She did this to the former Sport Minister S. B. Dissanayake and she is doing the same thing to me,” he said, referring to allegations by the former champion that she was being mistreated by Sporting authorities.
Minister Jayasekera said Olympic silver medalist Susanthika Jayasinghe was creating all this uproar because she wanted to migrate to Australia. “The Sport Ministry has currently employed Susanthika Jayasinghe as a Consultant and is paying her a sum of Rs. 60, 000 monthly,” he said.
“However Susanthika doesn’t even come in the direction of the Sport Ministry. This entire ruckus about selling her medal is to ensure she gets to leave the country. She is trying to go to Australia,” the Minister said.
Former Olympic athlete Susanthika Jayasinghe has claimed she is being mistreated by the country and by the Sports Ministry. She has said that she is no longer being paid as a consultant to the Sport Ministry and that she will be forced to sell her Olympic medal to make ends meet.
