Joint Opposition MP Kumar Welgama denied reports that the MPs of the Sri Lankan Freedom Party (SLFP) attempted to broker a truce between former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and President Maithripala Sirisena.

The Joint Opposition MP further said that no meeting on such a topic would have taken place without his knowledge.

He further pointed out that after former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, he was the senior-most Joint Opposition MP representing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

Be that as it may, political sources reveal that a meeting between former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and President Maithripala Sirisena is on the cards.

The sources also said they two factions within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party were due to meet to discuss how best to serve the future of the country, shortly.
