Son of motorsport champion Ananda Wedisinghe, Ken Wedisinghe has lamented the lack of facilities on hand the day his father crashed to his death at the Nuwara Eliya Road Races on April 24.
Wedisinghe’s half Japanese son Ken, in an emotional interview with a television station on the weekend said he wished organizers would tell the truth about the lack of facilities on hand.
“There was only a fire truck there. There was no ambulance. The ambulance got late, they got late to take my father to hospital,” he said.
“My father is dead now, there is no use in speaking about it, but they should tell the truth,” he said.
“I race in Japan. I know these things. There were no sand bags. My father knew this, yet he raced, but the ambulance took too long to come. There was no ambulance there – that is the truth,” he said.
Ken Wedisinghe also said he intended to come back and race in Sri Lankan to take his father’s name forward.
The organizers – Sri Lanka Motorcycle Club - have come under severe criticism for failure to adhere to accepted safety measures.
Ananda Wedisinghe succumbed to his injuries on May 29, after a month in coma.
