Sri Lanka Police have vowed severe action against individuals or groups promoting religious and ethnic hatred through social media.
In a statement released yesterday, Sri Lanka Police said they would take swift action against those propagating religious or ethnic divisions, irrespective of position.
The move comes on the heels of the Sri Lanka Police deploying four teams to arrest Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera for inciting religious violence.
However, the Thera is yet to be arrested.
Meanwhile, releasing a vide on Sunday, Gnanasara said that before arresting him, Sri Lanka Police should arrested Rishard Bathiudeen and Faiszer Musthapha for creating communal disharmony.
He also added he was not afraid of the Police, was ready to be arrested and was ready for what he termed ‘the final battle’.
"If the Police chief is from the hill country, I hail from the South," Gnanasara Thera said, challenging IGP Pujith Jayasundara to arrest him.
