United National Party (UNP) MP Bandula Lal Bandaragoda got into a heated exchange with the Baddegama Divisional Secretary when he arrived at the Baddegama Divisional Secretariat to collect dry rations for a group of affected people, but found no relief items available.
The heated exchange ensued as a result of the Baddegama Divisional Secretary telling the UNP MP she did not have the supplied he requested.
“As a parliamentarian and as part of the government we have called all the places we know,” he said, “We have run day and night like this on behalf of the people. I am the Chairman of the Coordinating Committee overseeing relief and the electorate organizer, so don’t tell me I an infringing on your area,” he said to the Baddegama Divisional Secretary.
I respect the fact that you have worked on behalf of the people, but don’t talk that way to me. I am a parliament MP and I have a responsibility to fulfil,” he said.
