Death Toll Increases To 194: Rathnapura Worst Hit By Floods

The death toll from the adverse weather conditions experienced in Sri Lanka has risen to 194, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.

In a special report the DMC said further that 99 were still missing and 63 injured.

The highest number of casualties was from the Rathnapura district, which recorded 79 deaths followed by Kalutara, where 62 people lost their lives.

In Matara 27 people lost their lives to floods and landslides while in Galle 13 people were left dead due to inclement weather conditions.

Hambanthota recorded 5 deaths and Kegalle and Gampaha 4 deaths in each district.

Relief and rescue operations are continuing, enabled by the Army, Navy and Air Force.
