The World Health Organization officially declared Sri Lanka a malaria free country today, Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.

The certificate was handed over to the minister coinciding with the 69th South-East Asian regional session of the WHO currently held in Sri Lanka.

Senaratne said that WHO commended Sri Lanka's achievement as truly remarkable.
