Colombo High court judge Padmini Ranawaka issued notice on Welikada Prison Superintend produce former DIG Vaas Gunawardena and his son Ravindu Gunawardena, who are serving life sentences, before the High Court.

Both were to be produced regarding the case of assault on a student at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT). Welikada Prison Superintend however, failed to present them in Court today morning for the hearing.

The High Court ordered the Superintend to produce them on the next day of hearing.

Former DIG Vass Gunawardena and his son Ravindu were sentenced to death after being found guilty in 2015 for the murder of businessman Mohamad Shiyam and are currently at the Welikada prison.
