Asgiriya Maha Nayaka Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thera told Minister Faizer Mustapha that the government should investigate the destruction of several Buddha statues in the Kilinochchi area by an unidentified group.

Gnanarathana Thera stated this when the minister paid a visit to him in Kandy recently.

The Maha Nayaka emphasized thet these type of incidents were damaging to the coexistence among communities in the island.

The Minister responded that police investigations were underway regarding the incident. He added that these types of incidents were a challenge to peace and even national security.

Several Buddha statues installed near the A9 road in the Kanakarayankulam area in Mankulam were recently destroyed.
