UPFA MP Dullas Alahapperuma today said that the 'Joint Opposition' SLFP MPs backing former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, decided to boycott the 65th anniversary convention of the SLFP based on three reasons.
He made this observation at former President Rajapaksa's office at Battaramulla, where several JO MPs held a small function to celebrate the anniversary of the party.
The SLFP celebrates its 65th anniversary today. However, the convention is being held on Sunday.
Alahapperuma said that the JO MPs decided not to take part in the convention to oppose the present party leadership's collaboration with the UNP, to oppose the character assassination of former President Rajapaksa and in the hope that the party will eventually take a course to the correct direction after their boycott.
The electoral balamandala meetings in the respective seats also confirmed the JO SLFP MPs' decision, he added.
