UPFA MP and 'Joint Opposition' member Ranjith Soyza said that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party will not be able to gain power in 2020 under the present leadership.
Pointing out that the party has started to collaborate with the UNP, he said that there was no assurance against the SLFP extending the agreement with that party beyond 2020.
"They first said the agreement was for two years. Then they said it was for five years. Who knows what will happen thereafter?" he said.
Furthermore, he said that the SLFP cannot expect to form a government in 2020 while working with the UNP until then.
Ranjith Soyza also confirmed that the SLFP members of the 'Joint Opposition' will not attend the party 65th anniversary on Sunday.
Therefore 38 MPs will not take part in the convention, he added.
