Sarath Weerawansa, elder brother of National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa, was remanded till September 7 by Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne over the misuse of two state vehicles when his younger brother was a government minister.
He is accused of causing a loss of Rs 10.5 million to the state by accepting rental for two vehicles of the Presidential Secretariat and the Ministry.
Sarath Weerawansa was serving as the private secretary to his younger brother at the time.
Weerawansa's lawyers informed court of his health situation and the Magistrate ordered the prison superintendent to consult the JMO in a necessity.
