Sri Lanka Navy arrested 2 persons who were attempting to smuggle 5.5 kg of gold to India by a fishing boat last night (30). The arrest was made in the seas 8 Nautical Miles North of Kankesanthurai while the suspects were attempting to transport the stock of gold in a fishing boat, disguised themselves as fishermen.
On receipt of intelligence by naval personnel attached to SLNS Uththara located in Kankesanthurai in Northern Naval Command, the sudden raid was made by the officers and sailors onboard P 464 Fast Attack Craft and managed to recover the stock of gold. The arrested persons along with gold were handed over to the Jaffna Customs Officials for further investigations.
