Colombo High Court today allowed Uduwe Dhammaloka thera to travel to UK for a Buddhist programme to be held in that country next week.
His lawyers made this request yesterday to allow Dhammaloka Thera to travel to UK between September 3 to 7.
The Attorney General made a request to inspect the necessary documents before giving his opinion. Today, the AG informed that there was no objection for letting Dhammaloka Thera travel abroad during the said period.
The High Court ordered Dhammaloka Thera to hand over the passport on September 13 and ordered it to be released. If the passport is not handed over in time, his bail will be cancelled and he could be remanded, the High Court also said.
Dhammaloka Thera is on bail over the illegal possession of an elephant calf and his passport was impounded by the High Court over the case. The next hearing of the case is on September 20.
