A protest was held by a group of people from Pallimunai, Mannar yesterday (23) against constructing permanent Navy base next to 25 Housing Scheme. The incident undertook when officers from Surveyor Department started surveying the premises.

Protesters expressed that they are unhappy about having a government security force establishment next to their village and providing 19 acres of land to the naval establishment.

MP Selvam Adaikalanathan discussed the matter with the protesters and the Surveyor officers left. Police was called to control the protesters. 

The protest was organized by a member of Northern Provincial Council and many civil society activists.
