A driver of a privately owned bus was arrested this morning near the Lipton Circus, Colombo, for drunk driving, police said.

The driver of the route number 138 was plying from Pettah to Homagama with about 50 passengers on board. Police stopped the bus at around 7.50 a.m. for it was obstructing traffic, and found that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

He was produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court No. 7 and was sentenced to a three month imprisonment and a fine of Rs 7,500. The driving license was cancelled for six months.

The driver is a 46 year-old from Angoda.
