Western Province Chief Minister Isura Devapriya today claimed that the Urban Development Authority was deliberately hindering a project to provide a solution for the Meetotamulla landfill.
Speaking at a press conference in Colombo today, Devapriya said that a project plan has already been prepared to remove the landfill. Investors have also been found for the project, but the UDA is yet to provide a suitable land, he added.
Devapriya said that he was unaware as to why the UDA was procrastinating on the issue. Perhaps someone is jealous with him thinking that he will be able to gain credit if the project is successful, Devapriya elaborated.
However, he insisted that a solution must be implemented as the landfill leads to serious health issues.
