Deputy Minister of Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara said that the SLFP 65th anniversary convention will be a major step in forming a government in 2020.
Speaking at the opening of the Galle coordination office of the Foreign Employment Bureau, Nanayakkara recalled how they had attempted to form a SLFP government in the Presidential and General Elections in 2015.
However, in the general election in August 2015 no party was given a majority, he mentioned.
He defended the SLFP decision to enter the consensus government saying that it helped to introduce sweeping reforms and change sertain legislation for the betterment of the people.
The SLFP will sideline those who are challenging the future of the party and will move on under President Maithripala Sirisena towards forming a government in 2020, Nanayakkara said.
